Progress Interrupted
Brandon’s revelation
He had told our parents at the last minute that the ‘event’ was insignificant in order to discourage them from going. ‘I believed if I downplayed it, they wouldn’t feel as guilty,’ Brandon explained, his tone dripping with faux innocence. My parents were appalled, betrayal engraved on their faces. ‘Why would you do that?’ my mother said, her voice breaking. Brandon shrugged, fully unconcerned. His revelation cut like a blade, breaking any progress we had achieved.
