Joe Bartley is an 89-year-old army veteran who was “bored to death”. Living in Paignton, Devon, he began looking for work to keep busy. So, he placed an ad in the local newspaper which read, “Senior citizen 89 seeks employment….still able to clean, light gardening, DIY and anything. Save me from dying of boredom!”

Fortunately, people took notice, and the vet was hired by a kind-hearted local cafe owner. However, Joe was flooded by offers from all around the world! Joe lives alone in a top floor apartment, following his wife Cassie’s death last year. He wanted to find a part-time job since he was lonely and wanted to socialize again.

And so, he placed an ad in his local newspaper that he was desperately looking for a job to keep him from “dying from boredom”. While he was on Good Morning Britain, he revealed that he’s gotten two temporary job offers from the ad at a supermarket as well as a local cafe. “I’m absolutely flabbergasted at the comeback,” Joe said, “As far as I was concerned, I was just an old guy putting an ad in a paper. I’m not a journalist. This has all been so wonderful.”
